Within LG's commercial display family, the UL3 series (the 43UL3Q and its sibling models) is among the most widely chosen entry-to-mid digital signage displays for retail, restaurants, offices and corporate reception areas. The most common sizes are 43 inches and 49/50 inches. Choosing the right hardware is half the job; choosing the software to run it at full efficiency is the other half.
What is the UL3 series?
UL3 is a commercial signage series with a built-in webOS operating system that needs no separate player. Depending on the model it is typically rated for UHD resolution, roughly 300-400 nits of brightness and up to 16 hours a day (24/7 on some models) of continuous operation. Check the LG spec sheet for the exact model for precise brightness, resolution and operating-hours figures.
43-inch or 49-inch?
- 43-inch: ideal for counter-top menu boards, reception desks and narrow corridors; used on its own or tiled side by side to build a menu wall.
- 49-inch: suited to storefronts, welcome areas and meeting-room information screens viewed from a greater distance.
Landscape, portrait and stacked mounting
UL3 displays can be mounted both landscape and portrait. Portrait works well in tight spaces such as lift lobbies and store entrances, while stacking two displays one above the other suits long menu lists. In the SignOS dashboard you set the screen orientation (0/90/180/270 degrees) in software and rotate the content accordingly - without changing any physical cabling.
SignOS runs natively on webOS
SignOS runs directly on the built-in webOS operating system of UL3 displays; no external Android TV box or PC player is needed. That saves both hardware cost and the failure risk of an extra device. For the setup steps, see our LG webOS installation guide.
Continuous operation, heat and burn-in
On screens running 24/7, fixed logos and menu frames can leave a trace (burn-in) over time. The UL3 series includes hardware pixel shifting (ISM); on the SignOS side you can reduce the risk by rotating content at intervals and avoiding a full-screen static image. Make sure there is adequate ventilation where the display is mounted.
Video wall and split-screen
Narrow-bezel UL3 models are suitable for video wall installs; for single-screen scenarios you can combine a menu and a campaign on one display with split-screen.
Support and remote management
The SignOS dashboard shows the online/offline status, last check-in time and currently playing content of your UL3 displays remotely; if a screen stops responding you can send a restart command from the dashboard. You continue to manage your Samsung Tizen, Android and Amazon Signage screens from the same dashboard. We explain our pricing approach in this article and choosing the right CMS in our CMS guide.
